Natural Beginning, Association for Informdness, Free Choice and Support in Pregnancy, Childbirth and Parenting.
As an unformal movement begun to act in year 1996, in 2000 became an official association. In 2000: Coordination, promotion, found raising for the first delivery room friendly to the mother and newborn in Gynaecological clinic, Ljubljana (the main Maternity Hospital in Slovenia).
Let me introduce a few activities, which are running in the moment:
- trying to improve the level of bith care for all women in Slovenia, trying to enable each woman to choose the type of birth care she prefers,
-workshops for pregnant women and their partners,
- counselling for pregnant women and their partners (by phone, internet, personal),
- supportive groups for young mothers and their babies,
- supportive group for women with traumatic delivery experinces,
- program for women with prenatal and postpartum depression (counselling by phone, internet, personal),
- workshops for young parents,
- special library with books, magazines, DVDs ...,
- special events such as meeting with Marsden Wagner (on the 5th of December 2008),
- cooperating with other NGO, Institutions, ...
Zalka Drglin PhD., researcher of prenatal, natal and postnatal care in Slovenia. She is focused on different concepts of motherhood, postpartum depression, woman's health in general. She is also the author of different articles and books about delivery and birth in Slovenia. She translated books from Ina May Gaskin: Ina May's guide to Childbirth and from Marsden Wagner: Creating your Birth Plan. In Natural beginnings she is counseller and leader of different workshops for pregnant women and their partners. She also conducts the program about advocacy childbearing women rights and the group for women with traumatic birth experinces. She is a mother of two children.
Radmila Pavlovic is a pschyclogist. She is a leader of different programs, workshops and supporting groups for young mothers. She is also a counseller for women with postpartum depression. She is a mother of one child.
Irena Simnovec is a president of Natural Beginnings Association. She is running the Association and conducts workshops about labour and the role of a partner (or other associates). She is a mother of two children.
Sabina Lenarcic is a social worker, counseller and leader of workshops for young parents in a field of communication and relations between partners and in a family. She also teach a assertive technics for mothers in postnatal period. She is a mother of two children.
Damijana Medved is a Coordinator of Natural Beginnings Association. She leads supportive group for young mothers. She is a mother of two children.
